Animation, narrator, music in the background, text insertsSometimes you don't see the big picture at first glance. Especially if you only concentrate on a small section. But when you recognise the connections, everything makes sense! This is also the case with the S-Bahn Vienna Upgrade.
The central piece of the mosaic is the renewal of the so-called "S-Bahn core line" between Vienna Meidling and Vienna Floridsdorf. For 60 years it has been an important local transport connection through Vienna for the Viennese and for commuters from Lower Austria and the backbone of public transport beyond the city limits.

With the upgrade, we make them fit for the future. Bridges, viaducts, retaining walls, tunnels and track systems have to be renewed, platforms extended. Switching points will be modernised and additional parking spaces for trains will be made available.

In addition, we are equipping the railway line with a digital train control system.

This digitalised train control system recognises where the train is at any given moment, the direction it is travelling in, and the distances and speeds of the trains. It makes rail operations more reliable and allows the Vienna suburban railway to run at a frequency similar to that of the underground.

Text insert: 220 instead of 160 metresFurther pieces in the mosaic of the upgrade are the platform extensions in Vienna and Lower Austria, which allow the use of longer and more modern trains. This means more seats and also more comfort!

When all these individual measures have been completed, passengers in the eastern region will benefit from future-oriented mobility with ÖBB as an indispensable alternative to the private car.
